Happy Blog Birthday To Me!

LilyLipstick is one today! I started my blog on October 27th 2009 - I can't believe how fast the year has flown by or how I ever lived without blogging before.

My blog didn't exactly start out as a fully formed, perfect blog - it's definitely been a big learning curve for me in just blogging itself. Taking good photos, writing reviews, figuring out html codes, finally getting my photos hosted by Photobucket rather than battling with Blogger...hopefully my posts have improved from my first few attempts!

I've had an amazing year blogging - here are a few highlights:

- discovering amazing products through other bloggers. I was too scared to order from ELF and had never heard of Sleek before I read blog reviews on them - now they're two of my favourite brands.

- winning lovely prizes in giveaways. I won Jen's Temporary Secretary giveaway and Peonies and Lilies' Blog Birthday giveaway - it's such a nice surprise to win something and I love my prizes!

- reviewing products for companies. I received some lovely skincare from Cellnique and am a Rimmel London VIP which has resulted in me getting sent some amazing products to try. It's such a privilege to get to try out a product and to know that your opinion counts.

- setting up a Twitter account. I really didn't "get" Twitter until I started blogging and while I'm not a fully fledged Twitter addict (yet) it's a great way to get to know fellow bloggers and companies.

- getting over 250 followers. I was amazed when I reached 50. Thank you all so, so much for sticking with my blog and commenting on my ramblings! xo

- discovering the amazing Green Monster and drooling over food blogs like Laura's super healthy recipies.

I think it's been a good first year for LilyLipstick and I can't wait for what's to come!

Paris Je T'aime

Travel apparently broadens the mind, apparently. One thing's for certain, travel has definitely been on my mind a lot lately. I'm off to Australia in two weeks for six weeks of sun and adventures. I can't wait. I booked the trip right in the middle of university-finals-revision-hell and I can't believe I now only have two weeks until I'm off on a 23 hour flight to the other side of the world.

Today's outfit is travel-themed but slightly closer to home: Paris. J'adore Paris. I've been to the city a few times and whatever the season (be it 30 degree summer heat or what felt like sub-zero in November) or who I've been with (a girlie trip with my mum, a holiday with a friend, visiting a friend studying there and a work day-trip) I've always had an amazing time.

Apres Ski

"It's so cold!" Is still my first thought upon waking up/leaving the house/making any contact with the outside world these days. I still haven't sorted my winter coat yet and have a strong aversion to trousers and jeans so winter dressing is something that I find a little challenging. Thankfully my New Look fair isle (I still want to call it Alpine) cardigan is so warm and perfect for cold days.

I'm still getting to grips with using a tripod and the timer function on my camera. My photos aren't perfect but I had fun taking these and that's what counts, right? I've been taking the photos in my lounge as my room is far too messy! I can't seem to balance my camera portrait style on the tripod, so that's why the photos aren't full length - there's just not enough space for me to get far away enough from the camera with it landscape-way. I'm not wearing shoes in these shots as shoes in the house is a bit no-no but I wore my Office boots out which are so warm - my feet are appreciating a break from heels!

What winter trends are you facing the cold weather in?

Feline Good

I couldn't resist the cheesy title of this post. Here's me wearing the cat jumper that I purchased a couple of weeks ago. I've said before that I'm not a fan of winter clothes but this may be cute enough to make me change my mind!

Jumper dress: New Look, Tights: gift from Japan. Rather lacking in accessories here - felt that the dress was attention-seeking enough!

What have you been wearing since the weather turned wintery?

What I Wore...In Barcelona

Packing for a holiday is something that I always find a bit of a challenge - I spend ages deciding what to wear each day and having to plan outfits in advance isn't easy...I usually dress to suit my mood on a particular day and despite having far too many clothes, I feel like nothing in my wardrobe naturally fits together in "outfits" - aaaah!

I've just come back from a mini-break to Barcelona. I went for only 3 nights so only took hand baggage on the plane which, while great for avoiding check in queues and baggage conveyor belt dramas, further added to my packing stress. With no space for those "will I, won't I" wear this pieces, I eventually decided on two day dresses and my new leopard print jumpsuit. The day dresses are so easy to wear and can be dressed up for evenings with jewellery while the jumpsuit was a bit of a risk - I'd never worn it before and don't think I could wander around my hometown in a leopard print all-in-one without attracting some strange looks but the thought of a new city to explore and (hopefully) sunny weather meant that it was thrown into my bag along with my ever faithful vintage sandals and a couple of Topshop cardigans.

What are your packing tips for holidays and mini-breaks? Are you more adventurous with your style when you're away from home or do you stick with tried and tested outfits?
